the State puts 20 billion dirhams on the table

It only took a few days so that, in application of the high royal directives, the machine gets started, in partnership with the CDG, in order to ensure the full success of the organization of these events.

This is how the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired on Friday October 20, 2023, a signing ceremony of a partnership agreement between the government and the Caisse de dépôt et de gestion, for the financing of the program to upgrade 6 stadiums, chosen in the cities of Tangier, Casablanca, Rabat, Agadir, Marrakech and Fez, as well as for the construction of a new stadium in Benslimane.

This agreement is part of the vision of King Mohammed VI aimed at continuing the development of football infrastructure in the Kingdom and bringing the six stadiums, objects of the upgrade and modernization operation, into compliance. with the standards of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) by 2025, as well as with the standards of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) by 2028. With this convention, the governmentment will have completed the establishment of funding sources for the upgrade and construction of the stadiums to host the final phases of CAN 2025 and the 2030 World Cup. Thus, under the terms of the agreement, a budget of some 9.5 billion dirhams will be mobilized for the implementation of investment projects relating to the upgrade of these stadiums, in compliance with CAF standards in the period 2023 – 2025.

A second upgrade will be carried out during a following stage, in compliance with FIFA standards for a budget ranging from 4.5 to 6 billion dirhams, over the period 2025 – 2028. The agreement signed between the government and the CDG also focused on the construction of a new stadium in Benslimane (Casablanca-Settat region), for an investment budget of around 5 billion dirhams, on the period 2025 – 2028.

Morocco’s organization of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, as well as the 2030 World Cup jointly with Spain and Portugal, is a consecration of the development process led by the Kingdom for more than two decades. , as well as recognition of the special place that Morocco occupies among the great nations. Since the signing of this agreement, a lot of water has flowed under the bridges and the upgrading of the stadiums has started.

The Benslimane stadium, where Morocco could host the final, is expected to be the largest stadium in the world, with a capacity of 115,000 seats. Construction work on this new enclosure, which will see the light of day on 100 hectares of land, has already begun for delivery in 5 years.
