During his interview with Tennis Majorsin which he gave his opinion on the association between two players he knew very well, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych also spoke of the regret of never having won a Grand Slam.
Is he one of the best players in history not to have won a major title? The former world number 4, retired since 2019, now advisor to Jiri Lehecka and new captain of the Czech Davis Cup team, answered the question.
“I take it as a compliment, honestly. Like I said, you know, I’m a very realistic guy, and if you look at the players I’ve competed with, then that’s the way it is. I know I did the most I could. And unfortunately, I ended up with zero Grand Slams, but that’s okay, I’m at peace with myself. And that’s the most important thing in the end, actually. I accept it. Could I have done certain things differently? Probably yes, but I don’t know what (he laughs). This did not happen. But if you asked me if I could trade two or three years in the top 10 for a Grand Slam title, I would probably say yes. But again, it’s a question of “what if”, and I don’t like it, so no, I’m fine with it. It’s good. »
