WTA > Swiatek suspended for doping, WTA reacts: “We fully support Iga during this difficult period. She has always demonstrated a strong commitment to fair play and respect for the principles of clean sport”

A storm in a glass of water? In any case, this is the opinion of the WTA, which was quick to publish an official press release following the suspension of Iga Swiatek for a period of one month after a positive doping test for trimetazidine (TMZ) in last August.

For the association of players, the Pole is above all suspicion.

“The WTA acknowledges the decision of the International Tennis Integrity Association (ITIA) – which administers the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP) – to impose a one-month suspension on Iga Swiatek, following to the identification of a contaminated regulated medicine (melatonin) as the source of his positive test for the banned substance Trimetazidine. The WTA fully supports Iga during this difficult time. Iga has always demonstrated a strong commitment to fair play and respecting the principles of clean sport, and this unfortunate incident highlights the challenges athletes face when managing the use of medication and of supplements. The WTA remains committed to supporting clean sport and rigorous processes that protect the integrity of competitions. We also emphasize that athletes must take every precaution to verify the safety and compliance of all products they use, as even unintentional exposure to prohibited substances can have significant consequences. We will continue to work closely with our athletes to provide them with education and resources that enable them to make informed decisions and maintain the highest standards of integrity in our sport. »
