Without trembling, the Netherlands won (2-0) against Germany thanks to the success of Griekspoor van de Zandschulp and reached their first Davis Cup final.
The Dutch team beat Germany 2-0 in Malaga on Friday to reach their first Davis Cup final, having already defeated Spain and forced legend Rafael Nadal to retire early in the week. The Dutch will play on Sunday for the coronation against Italy, title holder led by world No.1 Jannik Sinner, or against Australia, finalist of the last two editions. The Australia-Italy semi-final is scheduled for this Saturday from 1:00 p.m.
Ranked 40th player in the world, Dutch No.1 Tallon Griekspoor won 6-7 (4/7), 7-5, 6-4 against German leader Jan-Lennard Struff (43rd) to offer the second point decisive to his team. Earlier in the evening, Botic van de Zandschulp (80th) emerged victorious from a 2h40 marathon match against Daniel Altmaier, ultimately dominated 6-4, 6-7 (12/14), 6-3. More consistent than his opponent and better in the numerous baseline duels, the Dutchman was feverish when it came time to conclude, only managing to fold the game on his tenth match point.
The Netherlands eliminated Spain from world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, a defeat synonymous with the end of the career for the legend Rafael Nadal. Triple winner of the Davis Cup (1988, 1989, 1993), Germany failed on Friday against the Dutch in its quest to reach its first final in 31 years.
