Member of Rafael Nadal's team between 2005 and 2022, Francis Roig knows the man perfectly at the 14 Roland‐Garros. He made some confidences to The Team after the official end of the Spanish legend's career.
“Rafael Nadal is not an example to follow, technically, with particular gestures and incredible acceleration of the arm, while having a lot of feeling in the hand. We are still talking about a gifted player, a spectacular, hardworking player, very confident in the process of improvement, with a very high power of concentration and involvement. There were many periods when he could not work as he would have liked, due to physical problems (knee, foot, etc.), and we ensured that all his movements gradually caused less high energy expenditure when striking. The more time passed, the more demanding he became of himself in training. Quality replaced volume, but he rarely ended the sessions happy. »
