The German clearly got the better of Andrey Rublev on Monday evening in Turin (6-4, 6-4).
The German Alexander Zverev, world number 2, dominated the Russian Andrey Rublev (8th) in two sets 6-4, 6-4 when they entered the Masters on Monday in Turin. Zverev, recent winner of the Masters 1000 in Paris, had already beaten Rublev just a year ago during the 2023 edition of the “masters tournament”, their last confrontation, already in the group stage and already with a score of 6 -4, 6-4.
The German made the difference in the first set by seizing his opponent's serve in the seventh game to lead 4-3, then 5-3. The two players remained back to back in the second set until 4-4. The German then took his opponent's service and a decisive advantage thanks in particular to two winning ends.
After this victory, Zverev, twice winner of the Masters (2018, 2021), occupies 2nd place in the “John Newcombe” group, behind the Norwegian Casper Ruud (7th) who caused a sensation earlier by beating 6-1, 7 -5 one of the contenders for the title, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (3rd).
