ATP > Shapovalov’s huge rant: “It’s kind of an insult to me. The ATP didn’t admit they were wrong and I received a check for $154!”

Sanctioned quite harshly with a disqualification during his match against Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals of the Washington tournament last August, Denis Shapovalov decided to appeal.

If he had been partly heard, since the ATP had confirmed that his disqualification was logical while reallocating his points and his prize money, the Canadian remained nonetheless furious two and a half months later. He sent a message in remarks given to Majors.

“It stayed in my head. I was very upset. Even though I got all 100 points back, I lost all my money. If you reduce the fine and taxes, they sent me a check for $154. It was kind of an insult to me. The ATP did not admit that it was wrong. There are players who have done much worse than what I did and they haven’t been punished very much. I was unlucky and I’m still upset that they didn’t admit their mistake. At that point, I no longer wanted to play tennis. But after the Davis Cup, it was better.”
