NÎMES Monfils, Ruud, Rublev… A tennis tournament back in the arenas

The UTS Nîmes will take place on April 4 and 5, 2025 and it marks the great return of high-level tennis to the Nîmes arenas.

Thirty-five years after the last edition of the Philips trophy (1986-89), high-level tennis will make its return to the Nîmes arenas. The announcement was made this Tuesday by the city of Nîmes and Bastide medical. “ It is not an exhibition but a real tournament, with a prize pool of one million dollars including 300,000 euros for the winner. », explains Patrick Mouratoglou, the founder of the UTS tour. However, the rules will be different from a traditional tournament. The matches will not exceed 45 minutes, there will be no second service, the counting will be intuitive (1-0-, 2-0, 2-1, etc.) and the players will not waste time warming up. .

UTS Nîmes, on a clay court, will welcome eight players including Ugo Humbert (15th in the ATP ranking), the best Frenchman currently on the circuit but also headliners like the Norwegian Casper Ruud (9th in the world) or the Russian Andrey Rublev (6th in the world). Without forgetting, the experienced Gaël Monfils (46th).

The quarter-finals will take place on Friday April 4, the semi-finals and the final will be played on Saturday April 5. In the stands of the arenas, spectators will not be asked to remain silent and the atmosphere promises to be great. “ When I was a child, I grew up with the Philips tournament and we wanted to bring back those emotions. If the event is a success, we would like to repeat the approach », Underlined Vincent Bastide, the boss of Bastide medical. The ticket office will open on October 11 at noon, on the UTS website.
