WTA ranking: Garcia, the fall continues

Caroline Garcia, who has decided to end her season, must expect to fall in the rankings. This is already (and again) the case this Monday, with eight new places lost for the French number 1, who could very quickly be dislodged by Diane Parry. The young Boulonnaise makes her return to the Top 50. As for the Top 10, Coco Gauff, titled in Beijing, returns to 4th place.

Caroline Garcia knew this when deciding to cut and make an appointment in 2025. By ending her season prematurely, the Lyonnaise would inevitably go even lower in the ranking and probably end the year in the second half of the hierarchy. And all the more so since Bertrand Perret’s ex-protege chose to take a break (in particular to follow a course at Harvard) at the dawn of the Asian tour, which is the one that has historically been the most successful for her.

For the moment, Garcia is still in the top fifty, but for how much longer? This Monday, the still French number 1 (but again for how long?), who had reached the quarter-finals in Beijing in 2023, fell eight places and found herself 44th. That is only six notches ahead of Diane Parry, who gains three places and returns to the Top 50 despite her defeat in the 2nd round in Beijing, certainly against Jessica Pegula, still 3rd in the ranking behind Iga Swiatek (1st) and Aryna Sabalenka (2nd).

Gauff at the foot of the podium

Clara Burel, defeated in the 2nd round in Beijing then exited from the Hong Kong Challenger, is no longer very far from Garcia either. However, the Breton woman fell one place (55th) this Monday in the new ranking. Varvara Gracheva, defeated in the semi-finals in the same Hong Kong tournament, and Océane Dodin, who has not played again since her entry defeat at the US Open, lost five (67th) and three respectively places (94th). At the top of the ranking, the only movement concerns Coco Gauff, titled in Beijing who overtakes Elena Rybakina (5th), who has not reappeared since the US Open (she was forced to withdraw in the 2nd round before her match against Jessika Ponchet) , as well as Jasmine Paolini (6th), exited in the 2nd round in Beijing.

The young American returns to 4th place. Paula Badosa, back in the forefront, re-enters the Top 15 after the superb performance in Beijing (defeat in the semi-finals against Gauff) of the one who had reached the quarters at the US Open after having been titled in Cincinnati and Washington. Also back in form (and in the Top 20) for Madison Keys; eighth finalist in Beijing.
