ATP > Fritz Sorgel (doping expert) on a possible suspension of Jannik Sinner: “My prognosis is as follows: ultimately, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport is referred to in the final instance, the sentence will be shorter”

A few days after the appeal of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the Jannik Sinner case, many questions remain unanswered, in particular that concerning a probable future suspension of the current world number 1.

While WADA is requesting a suspension of between one and two years for the Italian player, whose version of the facts concerning his two positive tests recorded last March will be studied again, the doping expert, Fritz Sorgel, estimated that the CAS sanction could be lenient given Sinner’s status.

“My prognosis is as follows: ultimately, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is seized in the final instance, the sentence will be shorter – we can already predict this in view of the often lenient and favorable case law for athletes in the TAS. Let’s not have any illusions: In this type of case, we always present an excuse and then everything depends on the quality of the excuse and how the well-paid lawyers handle it. Indirectly, big names in tennis like Novak Djokovic have suggested it: the highest ranked players are privileged and the lowest ranked are neglected.said the German professor in an interview with Sport 1.
