Arthur Fils in quarterfinals in Tokyo after Matteo Berrettini’s retirement

After a convincing first round, Arthur Fils continues to make his way through a particularly tough field in Tokyo. Opposed to Matteo Berrettini, the French took advantage of the latter’s abandonment in the first game of the second set (6-7 [5]0-0).

After losing his serve during his second put-in, Taylor Fritz’s scorer was able to stay in the match and catch up with his break to get back to 4-4 in the first set. The two players then went to the tie-break and while the Italian was already starting to show some discomfort in his abdominal area, he managed to pocket the first set seven points to five in the deciding game.
