Four French players in the quarter-finals of the CO’Met Orléans Open tennis tournament?

Herbert, Mayot, Grenier, Escoffier and Bonzi are on the program for this Thursday, September 26, at the CO’Met Arena.

After the elimination of five of the six main seeds of the tournament (Quentin Halys, Denis Shapavalov, Constant Lestienne, Luca Van Assche and Richard Gasquet), Harold Mayot is now the highest ranked player, with his 115th place in the world, still in the running at the CO’Met Orléans Open tennis tournament.

The youth of Mayot

The young Messin (22 years old), former world junior number 1, will be one of the attractions on Thursday, September 26, at the Arena, where he will face in the afternoon (third match scheduled) another Frenchman, Antoine Escoffier (235th), for a place in the quarter-finals.

Three other French players will also try to climb the roller coaster of this 19th edition, and join the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic, the Englishman Jacob Fearnley, the Belgian Alexander Blockx and the Estonian Mark Lajal: Hugo Grenier (150th), Benjamin Bonzi (174th but 42nd at the start of 2023) and Pierre-Hugues Herbert (125th, after being 36th in 2019).

Ten figures to better understand the tournament

Of the three former winners of the tournament, the Alsatian – 33 years old, former world number 2 in doubles, and winner, with Nicolas Mahut, of five Grand Slams – is the last survivor after the eliminations in the first round of Norbert Gombos and Grégoire Barrère… whom he dismissed on Wednesday evening in three chaotic sets.

The program for this Thursday, September 26 at CO’Met:
At 11 a.m.: Hugo Grenier (FRA) – Matteo Gigante (ITA) followed by Eliakim Coulibaly (CIV) [Q] – Benjamin Bonzi (FRA) followed by Antoine Escoffier (FRA) – Harold Mayot (FRA), followed by Hugo Grenier-Luca Sanchez (FRA) – Robin Haase (NED)-Lucas Miedler (AUT), followed by Marc-Andrea Huesler (SUI) – Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA), followed by Tristan Lamasine-Tom (FRA) – Manuel Quinard-Grégoire Jacq (FRA).
