Back down to 287e world ranking after being 203e worldwide at the beginning of the year and still 231e In the heart of summer, Jules Marie has been feeling a bit down in recent weeks.
As a result, in order to put all the chances on his side in his quest for the world top 200, the 33-year-old Frenchman has decided to opt for a new style of play that is more offensive and more driven from the front.
At least that’s what he said on his account. Linkedin.
“I had a lightbulb moment. For 25 years, the DNA of my game has been based on consistency, a blocker-defender style. That’s what allowed me to be 203e world and to play Grand Slam tournaments. But today, it’s also what’s holding me back from going further. I realized that to reach a new milestone, I was going to have to take more risks. I have to develop my game towards more aggressiveness, which will inevitably lead to more mistakes – and that’s probably the hardest thing for me. In any case, I can’t afford to run as much against younger players. In Cassis, I managed to do it: by tiring myself less, by making more winning shots, and above all by having a lot of fun on the court. In Rennes, in the first round, that’s what allowed me to win, despite a match where I was behind and where I had to defend several break points. Today, I’m returning to France after a bad tour in the USA. I lacked sensations and I made far too many mistakes. Obviously disappointed, but I know that I will need time to adapt. This is the direction we will be working in over the next few weeks.”
