In this first round of the Grand Slam of the Australian Open, Frenchman and member of the top 15 Ugo Humbert faces Italian Matteo Gigante. Ugo Humbert, seeded number 14, began his season by participating in the United Cup in which he won his duel against Dominic Stricker before losing to Flavio Cobolli. Concluding his 2024 season with a series of 5 consecutive victories at the Paris-Bercy Masters, the Frenchman created the surprise of eliminating the world number 3, Carlos Alcaraz, or even the top 20 Karen Khachanov in the semi-final in order to be finalist against Alexander Zverev. Author of a very promising 2024 season, he should want to start his 2025 season with a quick victory.
Matteo Gigante, for his part, entered this tournament through qualifying. He also won his 3 matches in just 2 sets against Nick Hardt (201st in the world), Lukas Neumayer (216th in the world) and Henrique Rocha (174th in the world). Victories which must have reassured the Italian player who had a series of 3 consecutive defeats at the end of last season. But the step should be a little high for Matteo Gigante in this match as his opponent seems to be in great shape lately.
