Undefeated since the start of the tournament, Alexander Zverev was assured of finishing first in the Newcombe group following his victory earlier in the day against Carlos Alcaraz, who was eliminated.
Second place was therefore decided this Friday evening between Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev. The latter had to win in two sets to hope to qualify in the last four.
But the matter was quickly resolved by Ruud. Exactly 44 minutes, time for the Norwegian, more solid and diligent, to win the first set 6–4.
The battle continued all the same, despite less at stake (ATP points and money remaining at stake). More relaxed, Rublev picked up and in the third set, Ruud, still serious, quickly regained the upper hand to win in 1h45 of play 6–4, 5–7, 6–2.
While he had not beaten a top 10 since last April before the Masters, and he remained on 9 defeats in the last 11 matches before going to Turin, Casper Ruud qualified for the third time (in three participations ) in the last four of the Masters after 2021 (semi) and 2022 (final). He will challenge world number 1 Jannik Sinner on Saturday for a place in the final.
