The WTA tournament in Beijing starts this week and we will see the 28-year-old Italian player Jasmine Paolini face off against the 21-year-old Canadian Clara Tauson. World number 5 Jasmine Paolini has been a finalist in 2 of the 4 Grand Slams she has played this year. At Roland Garros then at Wimbledon, the Italian was able to win but came up against formidable opponents like Iga Swiatek or Barbora Krejcikova. Big winner of the Dubai tournament (hard) this season, she intends to achieve the best results in Beijing, after a too quick passage to New York for the US Open. Indeed, after winning her first 3 matches (including one retirement), she was knocked out by the Czech, semi-finalist, Karolina Muchova in 2 sets (6-3, 6-3).

For her part, Clara Tauson is having a rather mediocre season since she was knocked out relatively early from most of the tournaments she played this year. Clara Tauson was eliminated in the first round in 7 of the last 9 tournaments in which she participated. It was only in Cleveland and the US Open where she managed to reach the second round. In Beijing, she managed to beat the British Harriet Dart in 3 sets, in a match lasting almost 3 hours. It’s hard to imagine her achieving a good result against the 5th player in the world.
