The question arose recently, as leaks concerning the Nintendo Switch 2 began to multiply and gain seriousness: what can we talk about without falling into the bullshit, the solicitation of uncertain information to please a algorithm thirsty for new products linked to the famous keyword “Switch 2”? We then made choices, and shared some “leaked” and therefore unofficial information on several occasions, while remaining quite conservative on our quantity of production. So, since last September, we have written 7 articles dealing with leaks about Nintendo's famous new hybrid console (here they are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). And obviously, we were criticized for making a fuss over the Switch 2, because the Google algorithm, after all, is stronger than anything and everyone needs to laugh. We have also been attributed with pressure from above to make us talk about these important subjects (in other words, to make money on the backs of honest workers – us).
Dare to consider, despite everything, that 7 articles dealing with rumors/leaks about a console expected for 8 years is still quite a few, especially if we were to compare ourselves to the competition (we wouldn't dare ). And then, it therefore seems essential to us to take stock of one thing: a rumor and a leak are very different things. A rumor is this famous rumor that goes around, launched in a hurry by an average forum user without any form of credibility, then taken up again by friends who care little about its veracity. A good rumor is one that lasts and ends up, through who knows what magic trick, ending its run in a more or less serious publication, then granting it a credibility that it did not necessarily need.
You can make the rumor yourself: go to Resetera, choose a slightly cryptic nickname, then say that “ according to my father who worked for 8 years at Blizzard, Warcraft 4 is in the final stages of development and should be revealed at the next Blizzcon “. As long as you come across forum users who are a little gullible (and especially eager for this kind of tidbit), the rumor grows and begins to generate discussions and debates: “ It's true that 2 years ago, another forum user said something similar, so why not? When rumors multiply, it’s because they are rooted in reality, right? » . And in a few hours, you are already at the top of r/GamingLeaks&Rumors. Since we started this tirade about the Switch 2, as part of our seven articles pre-official announcement of the new Nintendo console, two of them were based on rumors, mainly to smile or downright making fun of it. Please know in the future that if we come to address other subjects of this kind, it will always be with this additional ironic precaution.
In love, the only victory is flight
And then there are the leaks. A leak, contrary to rumor, is mainly based on concrete facts. A proof, in short. It could be a stolen official document, a former employee who decides to share a whole bunch of information out of revenge, or even a prop maker sharing the design of a console before it be made official, for example (you see where we are going with this). But then, there are good and bad leaks. To determine the veracity of a leak, we must first consider its source.
This is why everyone who has been working in this industry for a while already has their list of more or less reliable sources for information of this kind. These can be recognized publications and organizations (VGC, Digital Foundry, etc.), journalists like Jason Schreier (Bloomberg) or Tom Warren (The Verge), but also less official but no less serious sources like Tom Henderson ( on his favorite subjects – Battlefield or Call of Duty in particular) or the French billbil-kun. All of these sources have proven themselves reliable on multiple occasions, giving them in our eyes a label of quality eloquent enough to allow us to discuss their information among these lines. But informants of this type are few in number.
To be clear, our line is simple and seems quite healthy to us overall: the goal is to favor sources considered reliable (i.e. with a history proving their veracity) and to avoid rumors coming out of thin air. part which only brings fallacious speculations (since they are based on wind). Now that this is clear, let's keep one thing in mind: like every reader of this site, we like to speculate, to discuss what might (or might not) happen, based on concrete information. To take a quick example, we will not stop ourselves from mentioning potential ports of games to a new console if we see a certain relevance, or if a “pattern” seems to be emerging. And if we speculate without any source to support our fanciful statement, we will not fail to specify it.
It seemed important to us to make this clarification to put an end to any misunderstanding: no, we are not going to start offering 38 Switch 2 news per week, as soon as a subreddit gets carried away with information coming from uncle from the son of José's nephew, who worked for 8 years at Nintendo. Moreover, this will also apply to GTA 6, since it will most certainly be the other SEO fight (to please the Google algorithm, for those who are not comfortable with the term ) shared by all specialized publications around the world in 2025. On the other hand, if sources considered reliable in our eyes begin to share credible information, we will do so, within reason.
