Thirty-three years after their creation, they will soon be ancient history: SMS (for « short message service ») will disappear in 2025. But don’t panic! Sending messages will still be possible. SMS technology will simply be replaced by a new one: RCS, or « rich communication services ».
This change occurs because the SMS system has become unsuitable for today's world: they are limited to 160 characters, they are sent slowly and the photos lose quality. With RCS, no more problems: it will be possible to share all multimedia content without losing definition, to create group conversations, interactive messages and all, without size limits. The possibilities are thus enriched and closer to other instant messaging services, such as Apple's iMessage, WhatsApp or Messenger.
