Eighteen years ago, Crytek demonstrated its technical know-how with the very first Crysisa graphic showcase exposing the omnipotence of its in-house engine, the CryEngine. It was beautiful, very beautiful yes, but also very, very difficult to run in ultra on the machines of the time… and this was even still the case years later. This resulted in a very famous meme on the Internet: “can this run Crysis?”such was the gimmick that kept coming up whenever we talked about hardware, even brand new and frankly muscular hardware. Crytek CEO Cervat Yerli recently spoke with PC Gamer, showing himself quite proud of this ever-recurring joke on the internet.
“I wanted to make sure that Crysis doesn't age, it's future-proof, which means if I played it in three years it should look better than it does today.”declares Yerli in the latest PC Gamer paper magazine. In other words, the software was not even designed for 2007 computers, but rather for the generation after. It should therefore not be surprising to not be able to run the beast on your PC when the game was released. “A lot of people have tried to play Crysis with all the criteria maxed out immediately and I was like, “Oh, that's not why we made Ultra mode, or Very High.” »”
This is what we clearly call avant-garde, even at the risk of frustrating an entire segment of technophile gamers… or else creating a buzz that will last a long time. In 2009, the site bit-tech.net asked the question about the best graphics cards of the time, not without a certain irony: “OK, can this run Crysis ?” From there was born a lasting meme, moreover inserted directly into Crysis 2 by Crytek. “This kind of ambivalent meme could be both good and bad for us, but I really enjoyed it. Last year, Jensen [Huang] for Nvidia announced a new GPU, and they said, “Yes, and it can run Crysis “, which shows how far the meme's reach has expanded over the years.” A sort of reward for the studio, which has become “fou” during the creation of the CryEngine, as also pointed out by Yerli.
-The opportunity to recall that Crysis 4 was announced in 2022, although we haven't seen anything of it yet. If you want to know if your PC is capable of running it too Crysisknow that a remastered edition was released a few years ago, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox (and even on Switch, as it turns out).
