Warhammer has existed for decades within the video game landscape: very recently, it was able to shine thanks to the license Warhammer 40.000 and his Space Marine 2 last September, received rather warmly. She also made a successful foray into Secret Level, the Prime Video series with the famous anthologies. All is not rosy, however, and we learn that a new role-playing game was recently nipped in the bud.
Thought Pennies Entertainment is a development studio specializing in RPG, founded in 2020 and based on teleworking while emphasizing “on humans in video game design“, as its website proudly indicates. Its spearhead? “Bringing social and comprehensive storytelling to role-playing games” : she has already worked on franchises like Star Wars or Final Fantasy. It was nevertheless affected by waves of layoffs in 2023 and at the end of 2024: the latter also caused a “change of strategic direction” from an undisclosed publisher.
It turns out that employee CVs reveal that the firm was working on an RPG anchored in the license Warhammerwhich however ended up in financing and which was canceled along the way. Its design had started since at least 2022 and was to use Unreal Engine 5 for a “Co-op, PvE action-RPG, featuring a third-person camera with a cast of unique heroes and playstyles.”
