ChatGPT changes tone of voice based on personalized instructions

OpenAI brings personalized instructions to ChatGPT so users can choose how the chatbot responds.

OpenAI introduces a new modification to its chatbot ChatGPT on X. Users can now choose how the chatbot responds to queries and what features it should have, in personalized instructions. These personalized instructions will be deployed first on Windows and the web, then on mobile and macOS.

“We’ve updated the Personalized Instructions to make it easier to personalize how ChatGPT responds to you. With the new UI, you can tell ChatGPT what properties you want it to have, how you want it to talk to you, and what rules you want it to follow,” OpenAI said on X.

OpenAI gave Thurrott some examples where custom instructions could be useful. When you use ChatGPT to set personal goals, you can customize the chatbot to speak to you in an encouraging tone. But even in a professional setting, when you are a marketer deploying ChatGPT for social media campaigns, you can ask the chatbot to give answers in creative and concise language.

These custom instructions in ChatGPT are currently rolling out for Windows devices and on the web. For mobile devices and macOS, they will appear in the coming weeks. Furthermore, users from the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland are also waiting. There, the functionality is expected “soon”.
