After responding to a call for witnesses, Dominique Daumard took part in the program “It begins today” broadcast on France 2. The recording of the program, which lasted more than three hours, took place at Paris in the 16the borough. An opportunity for Dominique Daumard, president of the Mental Health and Inclusion (SPI) association, who wants to make her illness known to as many people as possible. The latter describes: “I received a very warm welcome. It was a positive experience, I met some great people. » Her testimony on schizophrenia, an illness from which she has suffered for many years, was retained by the film crew after several telephone exchanges.
An illness diagnosed late
It all starts with an emotional shock. Aged around thirty, Dominique Daumard is going through postpartum depression. Clinical signs then begin to appear, creating a state of confusion (visual, auditory and sensory hallucinations, anxiety about fragmentation, scattering and dispersion, loss of interest, hypersensitivity, etc.) which requires numerous hospitalizations.
Certain encounters allowed Dominique Daumard to be diagnosed as schizophrenic. She explains: “I was welcomed into a very avant-garde structure, Les Vertes Collines in Genay, intended for elderly people or people suffering from mental disorders. I met Christine there, who showed patience and kindness towards me. She sort of tamed me. » For fourteen years, Dominique Daumard has also been followed by a psychologist from Dijon. “My psychologist conceptualizes, takes the time and gives me good advice,” she explains.
An intense and informative day
If Dominique Daumard is already looking ahead to 2025, with the exhibition of her drawings and texts in Dijon, as well as the potential publication of a book, the latter will not soon forget this beautiful experience: “During and after the recording, I was surprised by the emotional reactions and the questions raised by my responses. It was an intense and informative day. If I am asked, I am ready to start again to talk about schizophrenia, an illness that I know well and that I deal with daily. »
