The Bel Foundation supported the Jura association Faire ça voir to help children suffering from myopia. This grant made it possible to equip 60 young people from all over France with glasses that prevent this vision problem. “We gave a scholarship to each family,” explains its creator, Ted Carret. We were able to distribute them via our relays throughout the country and of course in the Jura. »
The optician is delighted with the better management of this anomaly. “I was at the general conference on myopia in Paris in November. This is a real public health problem. A child who suffers from myopia is more likely to develop problems much more quickly (retinal detachment, cataracts, etc.). »
-A disorder curbed thanks to glasses
With hindsight, specialists have noted that these glasses slow down its progress and thus reduce the risks. “If parents and ophthalmologists realize the results, there are still not enough children equipped,” regrets Ted Carret. There is still a lack of information. » This support from the Bel Foundation was therefore beneficial on several levels.
Ted and Anne Carret are opticians in Lons-le-Saunier and Champagnole (Atol). They created the association in 2017. “Its objective is to raise awareness of the various vision-related disorders: dyslexia, color blindness, myopia, low vision, ophthalmological migraine, and above all the compensation solutions that exist, in addition to medical treatments” , recalls Ted Carret. These disorders affect 20 million French people.
