The new Hisense A9 Android smartphone features an e-ink display

Chinese tech giant Hisense has added a new smartphone to its lineup, although it’s more of a new variant than an entirely new model. Specifically, the Hisense A9 was launched in 2022 and is now launched in a new version. The Hisense A9 will now be offered with 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of internal storage, while the original smartphone was only offered with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The new Hisense smartphone is priced around $420 and is expected to be available in a few days, but only in the Chinese market.

This phone is equipped with a 6.1-inch e-ink display with a pixel density of 300 DPI and adjustable front lighting. In addition, the Hisense A9 weighs 183 grams, has a thickness of 7.8 millimeters and is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor. Unfortunately, this SoC does not come with 5G connectivity. Dual-band Wi-Fi is supported, but the Android 11 operating system is extremely outdated.

The manufacturer places particular emphasis on wireless audio playback, since the ES9318 chip supports high-resolution Bluetooth codecs such as aptX and LDAC. The phone also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a large battery with a capacity of 4,000 mAh. The aforementioned e-ink display is definitely the highlight of the Hisense A9 spec sheet, which is suitable for users who read books or other long texts on their smartphone. That said, the screen cannot display colors, and due to long response times, media containing moving images cannot be displayed correctly.
