LG x Homey: ThinQ devices are now part of the Homey ecosystem

Thursday’s release of the ThinQ app for Homey represents the official integration of LG’s ThinQ smart home gadgets into the Homey ecosystem. Although LG acquired Athom, parent company of the Homey ecosystem, in a $61 million deal last July, the electronics giant did not specify how its ThinQ gadgets would work with Homey. However, with the recent opening of ThinQ APIs by LG ( ), it’s no surprise to see Homey working with ThinQ gadgets. It’s no surprise that the Homey suite is the first to take advantage of it.

LG devices supported by ThinQ are now an integral part of the Homey suite, which also covers several smart home brands, including Philips Hue, Aqara, Eufy and a thousand others. Homey Cloud users can download their respective smart home device apps from the Homey app store, and control, monitor, or create automations within the Homey app. With the ThinQ APIs recently opened by LG, the functionality of Homey Cloud and Homey Pro is extended to the thirty smart devices in the ThinQ range.

But this is just the first in a series of moves LG will make in the smart home space since acquiring Homey. Integrations will become even tighter as LG moves toward its “loving intelligence” ideals for the smart home. Additionally, with the open ThinQ API, LG smart refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners will now be able to reach a much wider audience, regardless of ecosystem. For LG, Homey is probably just the beginning.
