Call for a general strike in the video game industry – February 13, 2025 – STJV

With its years of experience as the majority union in the video game industry, the STJV has been able to take stock of it, which has become a real employers' circus. We were able to establish an action plan so that we, video game workers, could sustainably improve our industry.

To demand that the industry finally becomes mature and stable, that workers benefit from dignified working conditions and can have confidence in the future, The STJV calls all workers and students to a general video game strike on February 13, 2025.

We demand:

  1. The maintaining jobs, canceling layoffs and making decision-makers accountable who must sacrifice themselves as a priority when their business is in difficulty.
  2. The transparency of companies on their finances and economic healthso that workers can plan for their future, and profit sharing with them.
  3. Taking into account health at work and personal life, through reorganization of work and the reduction of working time.
  4. The direct participation of workers in decision-making in their company to avoid errors on the part of their management and monitor the proper use of private and public funding.

These demands are very concrete, and respond to decades of corporate mismanagement, opacity and denial of the suffering of workers. For example, at the time of publication of this appeal, Don't Nod workers are on strike against a layoff plan caused by years of mismanagement and unheeded worker alerts. Don’t hesitate to support their strike fund.

If our bosses systematically ignore polite requests, the workers have on their side the number and the solidarity that connects them. We must organize ourselves everywhere. We encourage you to meet your union representatives to talk about it, to contact us, to organize actions and discussions at home, and to join together the rallies that will be organized on February 13.

We remind you that this call covers the scope of action of the STJV in the private sector, and therefore concerns any person employed by a publishing, distribution, services and/or creation company for video games whatever their position or status. and whatever the field of activity of your company (games, consoles, mobile, serious games, VR/AR, game engines, marketing services, streaming, derivative products, esports, online content creation, etc.), as well as all the teachers working in private schools in courses related to video games. Since this is a national call to strike, no action is necessary to go on strike: simply do not come to work.
