The best new smartphones under 300 euros at the moment

In terms of design, each smartphone is distinguished by well-defined aesthetic choices. The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G sports a minimalist design with photo sensors arranged individually on the back cover, surrounded by distinct circles. Its edges are flat, while its corners are rounded for a pleasant grip. Available in gray, turquoise and midnight blue, it has a glossy finish with elegant highlights. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G, for its part, has flat profiles, and its photo sensors are mounted on an integrated back plate, matching the color of the device. Three colors are available: black, purple and blue, for a look that is both modern and sober.

Finally, the Nothing CMF Phone 1 focuses on assertive originality with very flat edges and a horizontal arrangement of the two main sensors on the back. Its rear shell can be dismantled using a discreet button located at the bottom right, a detail that will appeal to lovers of modularity. The black, white and orange colors complete its unique style.

In terms of dimensions, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G is the most compact. Conversely, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is slightly more imposing, just like the Nothing CMF Phone 1. The latter is also the heaviest with 197 grams, compared to 200 grams for the Galaxy A16 and only 187 grams for the Xiaomi.

In terms of waterproof certification, both the Galaxy A16 and Redmi Note 13 Pro boast an IP54 rating, offering limited water and dust resistance. The Nothing CMF Phone 1, for its part, displays an IP52 certification, making it slightly less protected.

Which is the most powerful and which is the best screen?

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G stands out for its Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, combined with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. This configuration places it at the top in terms of power, ideal for demanding users. Next comes the Nothing CMF Phone 1, equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 and also offering 8 or 12 GB of RAM, with the possibility of adding a micro SD card to expand the storage up to 2 TB. The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, featuring an Exynos 1330, is slightly behind with 4GB of RAM, although it also has expandable storage via micro SD.

On the screen side, the Redmi Note 13 Pro outperforms its competitors with a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel offering a definition of 1220 x 2712 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and an impressive peak brightness of 1800 cd/m². The Nothing CMF Phone 1 also offers a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a frequency of 120 Hz, but slightly lower brightness (up to 2000 cd/m² in certain conditions). Finally, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G presents a 6.7-inch screen, also AMOLED, but limited to a maximum brightness of 800 cd/m² and a frequency of 90 Hz, placing it behind in terms of display quality.

What configurations for photos and what connectivity?

The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G stands out with a 200-megapixel main sensor, offering optical stabilization, ideal for capturing stunning details. It is complemented by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. The Nothing CMF Phone 1, with its 50-megapixel main sensor and a 2-megapixel portrait sensor, offers solid performance, as does the Galaxy A16 5G, which also offers a 50-megapixel main sensor but accompanied by less capable secondary sensors. For selfies, the Redmi Note 13 Pro and CMF Phone 1 stand out with 16 megapixel sensors.

What configurations for photos and what connectivity?

In terms of connectivity, the three smartphones offer solid but differentiated features. The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is compatible with Wi-Fi 5, while the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G and Nothing CMF Phone 1 support Wi-Fi 6, providing faster connection speeds and better network management cluttered. All three have NFC technology, allowing contactless payments, and Bluetooth (version 5.3 for the Galaxy A16 and the CMF Phone 1, 5.2 for the Redmi Note 13 Pro).

As for the jack sockets, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G and the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G are equipped with them, a nice feature for fans of wired headphones. On the other hand, the Nothing CMF Phone 1 does without it. The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G features an infrared emitter, meaning it can be used as a remote control for various electronic devices.

Finally, for security, the fingerprint readers are integrated in a practical way: under the screen for the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G and the Nothing CMF Phone 1, while the Galaxy A16 5G positions its on the side, at the level of the ignition button.

What about autonomy and charging capabilities?

The autonomy of smartphones is one of the essential criteria for modern users. With a 5100 mAh battery, the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G offers the largest capacity, followed very closely by the Nothing CMF Phone 1 and the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, each equipped with a 5000 mAh battery. However, actual autonomy depends on software optimizations and usage.

When it comes to charging speeds, the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G stands out thanks to a fast charging power of 67 watts, allowing a full charge in record time. The Nothing CMF Phone 1, with 33 watts of wired charging, is a step down, but still competitive in this price range. Finally, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G offers 25 watts fast charging, slightly behind its competitors.
