Subaru surprised motorsport fans at the Tokyo Auto Show by unveiling the WRX STI S210, a special edition limited to just 500 units. Described as the “pinnacle of STI complete cars,” this version offers significant improvements in performance, chassis and design, according to Subaru.
After years without a true STI version of the current generation WRX, Subaru is finally meeting expectations with an edition inspired by the WRX NBR Challenge, famous for its performance at the Nürburgring.
More power for more sensations
At the heart of this special edition is an upgraded 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder Boxer engine, generating 296 horsepower, an increase of 25 horsepower over the rest of the WRX lineup.
Mechanical modifications include:
- • A new admission system
- • An air duct before the turbo
- • Low back pressure exhaust
- • Redesigned electronic management
Torque remains stable at 276 lb-ft, but offers a more linear response. Power is sent to all four wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT) called the Subaru Performance Transmission. The latter, however, does not seem out of place in this type of vehicle.
Significant chassis improvements
The WRX STI S210 benefits from modifications to the suspension and brakes for even sharper handling:
- • Reconfigured ZF electronic shock absorbers
- • Reworked coil springs and rear stabilizer bars
- • Ventilated and perforated brake discs with six-piston Brembo calipers at the front
High-performance Michelin tires (255/35R19) mounted on 19-inch STI Flexible Performance rims from BBS add to the car’s exceptional grip.
Aggressive and functional design
The aesthetics of the S210 reflect its sporty character with pronounced aerodynamic elements, designed to improve performance:
- • Dry carbon rear wing
- • Front diffuser, sculpted side skirts and rear diffuser in Crystal Black Silica
- • A touch of cherry red on the grille for a unique look
- • S210 logos and STI emblems to emphasize its exclusivity
An interior inspired by motorsport
The cabin of the S210 is equipped with Recaro seats with carbon backs, covered in Nappa leather with eight-way electrical adjustments. The black theme is enhanced by red accents, STI emblems and an exclusive number plaque.
Limited production and unanswered questions
The Subaru WRX STI S210 will be produced in just 500 units. Its exact availability will be announced in the spring of 2025, and it remains to be seen whether this special edition will be reserved for the Japanese market or accessible to other regions.
