Everything we know about iOS 19

In Europe, iPhone and iPad users are waiting for the month of April to discover the big new feature in iOS 18, namely Apple Intelligence. This means that the next version of the OS should be announced two months later. Here’s what we already know about it.

A well-regulated calendar

Like every year, the Cupertino company should follow its usual schedule for iOS 19. This means that this new version of Apple’s mobile operating system should be announced during June, during the traditional WWDC. This is the annual show that takes place in California. Then, we would have to wait until July for the release of the public beta and September for the arrival of the stable version.

Which devices will be compatible?

Of course, you will have to wait until the official announcement to find out which devices will be able to accommodate iOS 19. However, the very knowledgeable IPhoneSoft used its connections to find out some information. While not all of the models listed below would be able to enable some more advanced features (including AI-related features), all of them would be compatible with iOS 19.

The list is also rather simple to summarize since it includes all the iPhones that are compatible with iOS 18. According to the source, this suggests rather meager new features, especially for all users with a smartphone less than 1 iPhone 15 Pro.

List of potentially iOS 19 compatible iPhones:

  • iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max (estimated release September 2025)
  • iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS / XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE (4th generation)
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)

On the other hand, the list would be thinner on the iPad side since the iPad 7 and the iPad Pro 2017 would not be compatible with iPadOS 19. At least an 8th generation iPad, a 5th generation iPad mini, an iPad 3rd generation Air or a 2018 iPad Pro.

Delays to be filled, AI as a priority

It is difficult at the moment to know what will be new in iOS 19. This is all the more true since iOS 18.3 is currently only available in beta and iOS 18.4 should only be deployed in spring. However, Bloomberg indicates that one of the major new features will concern Siri. The Apple firm would like to make its virtual assistant “more human” in its interactions thanks to an advanced internal language model called LLM Siri.

This should allow Siri to have more latitude in its interactions with installed applications. This advancement would also aim to benefit from more precise responses thanks to a better understanding of queries. The aim would above all be to catch up with certain competitors, including ChatGPT and Google Gemini. However, you would have to be patient before discovering it.

If the announcement should be made at the next WWDC, its implementation should not happen this year. According to sources, we would have to wait until spring 2026, therefore until the arrival of iOS 19.4. As with iOS 18, the deployment of new features would be spread over several months.
