Caught in the snowstorm at an altitude of 2,200 m in shorts and sneakers, a trailer is rescued by the PGHM above St-Lary

Originally from the region, this 25-year-old individual was able to be saved thanks to a weather window favorable to his evacuation by helicopter.

“For weeks, we have continued to repeat the same prevention messages, to go out equipped, to find out about the weather, not to leave alone…” And yet, despite the numerous calls for caution and the recent dramatic accidents, rescuers from the Pierrefitte-Nestalas PGHM were again urgently dispatched this Saturday at the start of the afternoon to rescue a 25-year-old trailer, from the Toulouse region, caught in the snow storm, above of Azet, in the Aure valley.

Having left a little earlier from Saint-Lary-Soulan, the trailer found itself trapped and technically blocked by the bad weather conditions this Saturday in the mountains, with snow and wind. However, he did not have the appropriate equipment to navigate this hard, frozen snow. When he had to stop his race at Cap de Laubère, at an altitude of 2,200 m, he was only wearing shorts and a k-way and wearing basketball shoes. “He had no survival blanket, no pants, no jacket which must be the minimum during this period,” said the rescuers.

Fortunately, he managed to warn his mother who called the firefighters. Finally alerted, the rescuers from the Pierrefitte-Nestalas PGHM managed to contact the victim and geolocate him using his phone. Thanks to a favorable weather window, they were able to reach the area by helicopter to collect the trailer and drop it off in Saint-Lary, not without reminding it of the behavior to follow and the precautions to take in the mountains in winter.
