Expected at the turning point for this CES 2025, the manufacturer Hisense hit hard with its new L9Q video projector and its spectacular innovations.
When it comes to designing ultra-short throw projectors for customers with a large budgetwe can always count on Hisense which has already made a place for itself in this segment of the market. In particular thanks to son PX3-Pro which is in our selection of the 6 best ultra-short focal length models.
But the Chinese manufacturer does not intend to stop there, because it is already counting on one new device at a time elegant, powerful and extremely bright : the L9Q. So can it become a real reference in the world of video projectors? We take stock.
A Hisense L9Q with a unique and resolutely “premium” design
If there is one thing that strikes us at first glance, it is undoubtedly the appearance of this Hisense L9Q which is unlike any other model. It must be said that the Asian manufacturer did not skimp on means with a black walnut panel, brushed metal finishes and a “Clous de Paris” texture. This is certainly not not the most discreet design that one can find, nor the most “minimalist”, but it will easily remind its buyers of the big check they had to take out to be able to afford it…
In addition, you should know that the design of this ultra-short throw video projector is also in the service of its performance. Like its audio system and the sound box which is inspired, according to the manufacturer, by “Roman amphitheatres”. Excuse me a little.
At the same time, some small ambient lights will beautifully highlight its curves and make it a main player in your living room. Even if it means stealing the spotlight from the celebrities it displays on the screen… Note in passing: Hisense told us that the prototype presented at CES in Las Vegas shares “the same technical specifications, but not the same “box”” as the final version.
Brightness that (almost) hurts the eyes
Most projector users invest in such devices to enjoy increased visual comfortthanks to the projection of the image which differs from the direct display of TVs. But over the years, brands have made such progress in terms of lasers and projection screens that their rendering is getting closer and closer to that of televisions…
The Hisense L9Q should be the best example of this, because its triple laser TriChroma lighting system will be able to deliver up to 5,000 lumens. Add to this a latest generation ALR (anti-ambient light) canvas, specifically designed to display the most precise contrasts and colors possible, and you will obtain an image almost comparable to that of a 4K TV (including in broad daylight).
To top it all off, you should know that the Chinese brand will offer its projection screen in several sizes up to 150 inches. Thanks to its projection ratio of 0.18:1, it will be able to display a very large image despite the proximity of the video projector to the wall. Suffice to say that competitors have reason to worry.
A sound as epic as that of a gladiator arena?
Hisense obviously knows very well how to talk to Ridley Scott fans. And for good reason: the Chinese brand has designed an ideal audio system to fully enjoy films like Gladiator 2 with 6.2.2 channel speakers which should – on paper – guarantee total immersion for spectators. Even if the sound reproduction of most video projectors (including high-end ones) will never match that of real home cinema speakers.
Despite this, it is also interesting to note that the Hisense L9Q has a sound tray inclined at 15° to promote the spatialization of sound, particularly with programs in Dolby Atmos et DTS Virtual X. Let’s still wait to test it to form an opinion on its sound qualities.
Not surprisingly, a rather steep introductory price…
It would be a poor understanding of Hisense to think that this brand would launch a new ultra-short throw video projector for small budgets. Indeed, we learned that this L9Q would be launched at the end of 2025 around €6,700.
It will therefore probably be of one of the most expensive models market upon its release, while waiting for what other manufacturers like Samsung, Formovie or even XGIMI – which made a strong impression with its 2-in-1 Ascend screen – offer on their side. Although it integrates several interesting new features, an interface worthy of the latest Smart TV models and a design that would almost have its place in a museum, it is clear that this Hisense video projector will not be accessible only to the wealthiest moviegoers.
