DLSS 4 allows Cyberpunk 2077 to achieve never-before-seen performance

A technical demonstration carried out at CES 2025 has just revealed the impressive capabilities of NVIDIA’s new DLSS 4 technology, notably on Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED’s flagship title.

Tests carried out by Digital Foundry with the new RTX 5080 graphics card demonstrate a major advance in the field of real-time graphics rendering thanks to DLSS 4. The main innovation lies in the use of a vision transformer, which replaces the old convolutional neural network from DLSS 3, providing increased image stability and a significant reduction in visual artifacts.

One of the new features, exclusive to the RTX 50 series, is “Multi Frame Generation”, capable of generating up to three additional frames for each traditionally rendered frame. In the most demanding area of the game, the black market of the Petrochem stadium, the results speak for themselves: in 4K definition with path tracing activated, performance gains reach 535% compared to native rendering. These figures climb to 725% with two images generated and peak at 935% with three images generated, allowing you to well exceed 120 FPS.

Cyberpunk 2077 becomes much smoother thanks to DLSS 4

Fluidity is not the only strong point of this new technology. Tests show a notable improvement in image regularity with multiple generation of images (x4) compared to single generation (x2). The only compromise concerns latency, which goes from 50.97 ms in simple generation to 57.30 ms in x4. An increase of 6.4 milliseconds which ultimately remains negligible compared to the 71% performance gain.

Cyberpunk 2077 is among the first games to receive native DLSS 4 support this month, alongside Alan Wake 2 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Other titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Marvel Rivals will follow later. NVIDIA is also announcing the integration of new technologies like RTX Hair and RTX Mega Geometry in some of these games, but it remains to be seen what the impact on performance will be.
