You will consume much less water at home thanks to this super simple to install box

The Droplet box and application promise to alert you to the slightest water leak and accurately monitor your consumption. And this, without going through a complex installation.

When we think about reducing our energy costs, discussions obviously often focus on electricity consumption. However, water consumption in homes is also an important subject. This is where the Droplet box from the American company Hydrific comes in. We were able to see it at CES 2025.

Very simple installation and ultrasonic sensors

This box, the size of which is comparable to a closed fist, has a great promise: an ultra-simple and quick installation to measure your water consumption in real time and be connected to a dedicated application.

Concretely, you must first attach the object to the main water supply in your house. To do this, you don’t need any tools: the box has a sort of small screw. By rotating it, you can adjust the width of the hollow part of the object which will encompass the pipe. Like pliers.

We were able to try it ourselves and it took us 10 seconds.

In this hollow part there are two ultrasonic sensors and they will be able to measure the hydraulic consumption through the piping. Then simply plug the box into an outlet using a USB-C cable and then the rest of the configuration takes place on the mobile application.

Alert at the slightest water leak

The Hydrific company indicates that thanks to the two sensors and its algorithms, you will be able to detect the slightest water leak thanks to alerts.

Let us also remember that, according to Que Choisir, a simple dripping tap can represent a loss of 5 liters of water per hour, or 120 liters per day.

More generally, the application provides detailed data on your water consumption with views allowing you to see the evolution on a daily basis, over the week or even over the year.

On the app, you can also train the algorithms as you go by indicating when you have just started a machine or dishwasher or when you have just taken a shower. The goal is to always have more precise data. However, we can wonder if everyone will play the game by drawing out their application after flushing the toilet.

A single payment… and soon in Europe?

Finally, Droplet is intended to be compatible with the vast majority of pipes according to the firm. The latter raised $140,000 during a Kickstarter campaign launched in March 2024 and deliveries recently began in the United States.

Count on a price of 229 US dollars, without subscription. So you only pay once. Hydrific also displays its ambition to export its product to Europe during the year 2025, without making any promises on this subject either.
