Withings, a major French specialist in connected health, is back at CES to present Omnia, a connected mirror concept which would serve as a hub to centralize all the health data collected by its various products: Body Scan scales, connected watches, blood pressure monitors, U-Scan (which analyzes urine) and of course BeamO (its “multiscope” combining thermometer, electrocardiogram, stethoscope and oximeter).
Still at the concept stage
The idea is to offer an assistant to decode all this information about an individual, which can be complex, and learn from it. The mirror format was wanted for “empower people and bring about a change in attitude towards their health, so that they take care of it proactively”, explains Louise de Vazelhes, product marketing manager at Withings.
Be careful though: this is just a concept. The device presented at the show is non-functional and only serves to illustrate the idea. “We wanted to take a step back this year and reflect on our unique position in the field of connected health”comments Louise de Vazelhes. “This is our vision for the future of healthcare, and we are presenting it at CES to get feedback that will inform its development.”
No clearly identified market
Withings is a regular at CES: it typically presents all its new products there. Omnia, however, stands out for the fact that it is very early in the phase, and its launch on the market does not seem at all guaranteed. “The final product will not necessarily take this form, we want it to be easily integrated into people’s daily lives”indicates the company in response to our questions about the market segment it would address.
The mirror is in fact far too bulky for the average consumer, not even to mention its price. It therefore does not omit the possibility of rather B2B use: “We are leaving the door open, it could become a retail experience to talk about our products in store, or it could be installed in sports halls for example.”
This would not be a first for Withings, which has managed to establish itself as a key player in connected health. In mid-December, the company announced with the insurer Agrica the deployment of a type 2 diabetes detection solution in pharmacies, based on Sudoscan Impeto Medical technology which it purchased in 2022.
