DECRYPTION – At the request of the Ministry of Education, the National Data Protection Agency has scrutinized the Google Workspace for Education suite.
The report no 50-2023 of the National Data Protection Agency (AEPD) had gone unnoticed for six months. And yet, the conclusions of the Spanish equivalent of the CNIL concerning the advisability of using Google tools in schools, colleges and high schools in the country are particularly alarming. « It is undeniable that we are in the presence of an invasive collection of personal information »writes the AEPD in particular in its public document, recently disclosed by the newspaper The World.
Over 64 pages, the agency evaluates a draft agreement between Google and the Ministry of National Education for use in classes of the Google Workspace for Education suite. The latter includes the in-house word processor (Google Docs), its spreadsheet, its calendar, its mail service (Gmail), its video calls (Meet) and its storage space (Drive).
