Lenovo's rollable laptop will probably be the star of CES!

Remember the rollable screen laptop Lenovo introduced almost two years ago at MWC? Apparently it has become a reality and, according to Evan Blass, it will launch in two weeks at CES. The leaker hasn't shared any specs, but the device shown on his blog looks essentially identical to the one we saw in early 2023. So we can expect a rather tall 12.7-inch, 2024×1604 pixel screen (format 4:3) which expands to increase the diagonal to 15.3 inches and 2024×2368 pixels, with an 8:9 ratio. According to Lenovo's statements in 2023, the panel would have been produced by Sharp. Once expanded, it will be like having two 16:9 screens superimposed, allowing, for example, to write a document and at the same time watch a PowerPoint presentation, or a YouTube video.

But be prepared for a rather agonizing wait: if Lenovo hasn't introduced some changes, it will take around ten seconds to extend the screen. This seems to be a limitation of the technology (this also applies to other products), but it means that it will not be an operation that will be performed frequently. However, at the time Lenovo assured that the panel, produced by Sharp, was capable of withstanding 30,000 scrolls. But how successful is such a device? Manufacturers are playing with foldable laptops, equipped with dual screens (Acer and ASUS) or not, but, as interesting as they are, these experiments are for the moment an end in themselves from the market point of view. The feeling is that these brands are throwing various ideas against the wall to see what sticks, but until these products find a truly compelling purpose, they'll just be curiosities to be admired at CES (and, for a few enthusiasts, to show to colleagues and friends). ) .
