According to the latest figures from IDC, Huawei has taken first place in the smartwatch market, dethroning Apple. The Chinese firm captured 16.9% market share in the third quarter of 2024, compared to 16.2% for Apple. This shift marks a turning point in a sector historically dominated by the American brand.
Huawei recorded 23.6 million units shipped, representing 44.3% year-on-year growth. This success is largely due to demand in China, where the popularity of connected devices, such as watches and fitness bracelets, is increasing.
In comparison, Apple shipped 22.5 million units, down 12.8% from the previous year.
Xiaomi ranks third with 14.7% market share and 20.5 million devices shipped. Samsung, in fourth place, remains a major player with 8.3% market share and 11.5 million units shipped.
