Ostéopathie Québec denounces the government’s inaction and expresses a wish for 2025

MONTRÉAL, Dec 19 2024 /CNW/ – Nearly three months after calling for a firm commitment during the last parliamentary term, Ostéopathie Québec deplores the persistent silence of the government and the lack of concrete progress on the part of the Office des professions du Québec (OPQ ) concerning the creation of a professional order of osteopaths. Despite the commitments expressed for fall 2024, no tangible measures have been taken so far.

Collective indignation expressed during the AGM

During At its annual general meeting held on November 23, the members of Ostéopathie Québec expressed, forcefully and unanimously, their disappointment in the face of government inaction. This meeting highlighted the urgency of acting to meet the expectations of thousands of Quebec professionals and citizens.

A wish for 2025: providing professional support for all

As the holidays approach, Ostéopathie Québec expresses a wish for 2025: that all Quebecers can count on rigorous supervision of the osteopathic profession.

« We hope that the government will finally deliver the reforms long awaited by thousands of citizens who benefit from osteopathic care every day. It is time to honor these commitments to protect the public and promote our profession », Says Karine Devantéry, president of Ostéopathie Québec.

For more than two years, the Office des professions du Québec has been favorable to the creation of a professional order, an observation shared by the minister responsible for the application of professional laws, Madame Sonia LeBel. Unfortunately, discussions with the authorities concerned have not led to any clear timetable or concrete actions.

Supervision, a necessity for public protection

In the absence of professional supervision, the public remains vulnerable to unequal practices. Ostéopathie Québec recalls that thousands of patients in Quebec benefit from osteopathic care each year, helping to relieve pressure on the health network. There is an urgent need to ensure that the practice and training of osteopaths meet high standards of quality and safety.

« Osteopathy plays a key role on the front line in our health system. We are reaching out to Minister LeBel and the Office of Professions to establish a precise and coordinated game plan for the creation of this professional order. It’s time to translate good intentions into concrete actions », adds Ms. Devantéry.
