For several years now, the Xbox ecosystem has no longer been just a console, but much more than that. The Redmond firm is currently seeking to imprint this information on the minds of the general public, as evidenced by its “This is an Xbox” advertising. While Microsoft’s strategy seems to be intensifying on various fronts, new rumors are now surfacing regarding a new cross-platform tool.
Microsoft is reportedly working on “a sort of cross-platform Xbox guide menu”
In a long article published in the columns of Windows Central, the well-informed Jez Corden claimed that according to some of his sources, Microsoft would be working on “a set of gaming APIs and user interface features, called Project Rainway , which is a sort of cross-platform Xbox guide menu.
Xbox is said to have taken inspiration from Batlle.net’s social features found in Hearthstone, Diablo IV and World of Warcraft, which allow sharing and communicating across platforms.
“This means that games running on platforms other than Xbox will still have an Xbox flavor and Xbox systems in the game, perhaps even cloud saves”
In reality, this last scenario already exists. This is particularly the case with the Steam version of Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, which supports Xbox cloud saves. Likewise, wherever you choose to play Diablo IV, you can recover your save.
Jez Corden concludes by saying that Xbox would like to offer these features in all of its games. Obviously, all this information should be taken with a grain of salt, although these revelations are not really surprising.
Earlier in the year, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, did not close the door to the arrival of stores like the Epic Games Store on console. We also know that Xbox is working to improve the gaming experience with the Xbox application on portable consoles, and that the brand is even working on its near portable hardware.
This famous Project Rainway would therefore make sense with the brand’s other plans.
