The new model, called “Gemini-Exp-1206”, would stand out, according to Google, by its increased performance on complex tasks. Programming, mathematics, reasoning and following instructions are areas in which this new AI would be more efficient than its predecessors.

Accessible via the desktop and mobile web interface (but not yet on the application), this experimental model promises to facilitate the resolution of advanced technical challenges. Gemini 2.0 is getting smarter and smarter

The first returns are promising: Gemini-Exp-1206 currently occupies first place in the Chatbot Arena LLM ranking, even ahead of OpenAI’s GPT-4. Google therefore seems to have largely caught up with its competitors.

Until now, Gemini Advanced subscribers had access to the 1.0 Ultra and 1.5 Pro models. The new Gemini-Exp-1206 could be a 2.0 Pro version or even higher. Google also plans to unveil other versions of the 2.0 model in January, notably during the public launch of 2.0 Flash for developers.

However, some limitations should be noted. As this is a “preview”, Google warns that some features may not work as expected. The model for example, does not have access to real-time information and is not compatible with some existing features of Gemini in its experimental state.

To access these new features, users must subscribe to the Google One AI Premium subscription, billed at 21.99 euros per month. The good news is that you get a free month if you just want to try out this new AI. The subscription will also give you access to 2 TB of storage, and other premium benefits on Google.
