The remake of the film with Pierre Richard can be seen this Monday at 8:20 p.m. on La Une.
For his son Alexandre’s birthday, the richest man in France, Philippe Étienne, opened the department store that belongs to him. Alexandre chooses Sami, the night watchman, as his new toy…
A comedy by James Huth, based on “The Toy” by Francis Veber (1976). With Daniel Auteuil and Jamel Debbouze.
What made you want to participate in this project?
I like the initial premise. All the people who saw “The Toy” at the same time as me dreamed of being in that car with Pierre Richard and having the same room as that kid. We didn’t understand why he was so sad when he had everything!
Sami, your character, has difficulty assuming his responsibilities…
He’s terrified! It’s complicated for him to approach life, to choose a partner, to have a child, to have a job and to cope with all that. The adult world is scary for people like him – and me! – who want to remain children for life. Basically, it’s the story of a child who will learn to become an adult thanks to a child.
When Sami arrives at Philippe Étienne’s house, we have the impression of an inferno arriving at the North Pole!
That’s what we tried to do! We sought to oppose these two worlds on a social and human level. It’s complicated to say that money doesn’t buy happiness, but what I find interesting in the film is that happiness is not necessarily where we expect it…
