The upcoming iOS 18.2 update promises an expanded suite of artificial intelligence features for eligible iPhone models.

Building on the initial rollout of Apple Intelligence last month, which introduced a revamped Siri, AI writing tools, Smart Replies, and a new Focus Mode, this update will bring more advanced capabilities . New features include Genmojis and Image Playground. These new features, as well as the integration of ChatGPT, will be accessible on the iPhone 16 models and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

New improvements for Siri

Siri will benefit from new improvements with the ability to interact directly with ChatGPT. Users can operate OpenAI’s powerful chatbot through voice commands or text input, simplifying access to its features. iOS 18.2 also introduces a visual intelligence tool that allows users to point their iPhone camera at objects to gather information. This feature works similarly to Google , enabling object identification, landmark recognition, and more.

Creating and editing images

For those who prefer visual communication, Genmojis offer a new way to express themselves through animated emojis personalized to the user. Image Playground, Apple’s answer to popular AI image generators such as Dall-E and Midjourney, allows users to create images from text descriptions or concepts. This tool supports different formats, including animation, and will be available as a standalone application and within third-party applications.

Additional features and updates

The update also includes photo improvements, such as improved video navigation in Collections and finer-grained video editing controls. Users can manage history of recently viewed and recently shared albums and customize favorites in utility and pinned collections.

Other notable changes

Other notable changes include the AI-powered redesign of the Mail app, which categorizes emails by priority level and provides a “condensed” view for organized communication with the sender. Safari will receive customizable background images for its start page. Additionally, iPad users will benefit from Image Wand, a tool that turns sketches and written notes into images within the Notes app.

Finally, iOS 18.2 includes bug fixes and improvements, including updates to Podcast that allow users to select favorite categories and receive personalized recommendations within their library.
