Fortnite goes first-person in competitive Frenzy mode available December 11

A whole new perspective

It’s these few shy images below that set the tone for what will be Frenzy from December 11a fight in first person view (a feature long demanded by players), in a brand new 5v5 map pitting two teams against each other with different objectives, a team made up ofAttackers while the other will be composed of Defenders.

The first team will aim to place a fault trigger (whose goal is to tear reality apart) on one of the two sites on the map, while the defenders will do their utmost to prevent the device from being placed and especially from exploding. We explain everything in detail later in this article. A game being played in maximum 13 rounds, since 7 winning rounds will give victory to a team.

To win a turn, all the Attackers need to do is detonate their rift trigger (see below) or completely eliminate the opposing team, confirming here that respawning does not exist in Frenzy. Note that after 6 rounds, the teams will reverse their roles allowing them to in turn become Attacker or Defender. A rather classic staging of the Domination or flag-taking game modes of games like Call of Dutybut which will be revisited here with the sauce Fortnitein particular by the addition of the gadgets described above.

Frenzy will notably allow players to test their strategy, their teamwork in tactical conditions, but also their solo prowess. To do this, at the start of each round, each player will be able to select one of the five gadgets present at the launch including:

  • The proximity mine allowing you to trap key sites (you can shoot them to trigger them or even pick them up if they have not yet exploded)
  • The protective bubble to protect his team from a mass attack
  • The reconnaissance grenade to mark enemies in the surrounding area, even through walls
  • The grenade frag to flush out well-hidden enemies (be careful because you can also take damage, but not your allies)
  • and the repulsor grenade allowing you to propel enemies and allies (in particular to protect them from an explosion)

Finally, last clarification, you need to know that the game mode will be launched in early access initiallywith both ranked games and unranked games. As usual, the unranked games will be more tolerant and will make it possible to replace players who leave the game during the game while the ranked games will offer more challenge and more competition by allowing rank management according to the successes and failures. In this specific case, matchmaking will take into account the average rank of a team, with potential adjustments based on player feedback.

A brand new map

But who says new game mode, also says new map. You were more used to a rather wooded environment, with vast plains and a few towns in the classic game modes of Fortnitebut since here, everything changes or almost, Frénésie welcomes a new map: Megapolis 10 (Skyline 10 in original version). as well as a set of limited weapons and items before numerous major updates planned in a second phase (new maps, weapons and features according to Epic Games).

A very urban environment with an Asian atmosphere (like the map in Chapter 6) as evidenced by the first images below, and a map with many parallel streets, practical for well-known traps and ambushes. You should note that Frenzy will be a construction-free experience. Epic Games confirms, however, that all your presets saved in your locker are kept including your existing outfits, back accessories, shoes, coverings, aerosols and emotes, unlike picks, trails, instruments, vehicles and musical tracks which will not be available.

How does a game of Frenzy work?

Concerning the progress of a game, you will start with a Predator pistol and 800 credits in your pocket (these credits will be obtained by eliminating enemies or by setting the rift trigger). A game being played in maximum 13 rounds, since 7 winning rounds will give victory to a team. To win a turn, all the Attackers need to do is detonate their rift trigger (the explosion will take 45 seconds once the device is installed) or completely eliminate the opposing team, confirming here that respawning does not exist in Frenzy.

At the start of each round, you will be able to purchase new weapons or new items by spending the credits you have collected. If you survive a round, you will keep your shield and equipment for the next round, knowing that you can place weapons, smoke grenades and stun grenades on the ground so that they can be picked up by your allies and vice versa on the ground. the eliminated players, but you will not be able to deposit or recover the gadgets selected at the start of the game. And if you are eliminated by an opponent or by the blast radius of the rift trigger, you will lose all your equipment collected for the next round.

Fortnite: Frenzy will therefore be available from December 11 in early access on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Cloud gaming and mobiles.
