A curious article from the “Soir” published recently seems to justify the cancellation of the conference in which Elie Barnavi, historian, writer and former Israeli ambassador to Paris, was to participate.
After mentioning the cancellation, undoubtedly following threats, which Le Soir does not specify, the article concludes with the reminder of a sentence that Elie Barnavi would have pronounced on France Inter on October 10, 2023 about Gaza . He would have, again according to Le Soir, declared that it was necessary to trigger “a carpet bomb on Gaza without asking any questions. »
I have not heard this interview, but I know Elie Barnavi, I know his incessant positions for the two-state solution, I know that he is a humanist, constantly attentive and respectful of the situation of the Palestinians, I know that he is fiercely opposed to Netanyahu. I know he is a man totally opposed to the use of brutal and massive force. I know that this man is internationally known for his measured, intelligent positions, always respectful of the rights of the Palestinians.
I am deeply shocked by this article from Le Soir which is nothing more or less than a distortion of the truth in order to justify the cancellation of this conference… and therefore to prove those who threatened it right. Perhaps he said this atrocious sentence, but obviously it is taken out of context. And the editor of Le Soir takes the opportunity to make a man of peace look like an abominable warmonger. It’s odious, despicable, it’s no longer journalism.
I believe it was Richelieu who said “give me a sentence written in the handwriting of the most honest man, and I will find something in it to make him hang”. We are there!
I think that Jewish organizations should demand to obtain the entire interview in order to establish indubitable proof of manipulation and to draw the necessary consequences with regard to Le Soir.
