Microsoft will ruin users' lives with an incompatible PC

In a little less than a year, Microsoft will officially stop supporting Windows 10. To continue using their PC safely, users of this operating system (and there are many of them) will not have to There's no other choice than to pay if they want to continue enjoying another year of updates.

For those who are not ready to put their hands in their pocket, other options exist. If their PC has the minimum configuration required by Microsoft, they will be able to upgrade their machine to Windows 11 without any problem. For others, if their PC does not meet the specifications necessary for the installation of Windows 11, Microsoft will simply recommend changing PCs.

A final option is still possible, but requires putting your hands under the hood. Because if the latest version of the operating system requires certain configuration to be installed, it is entirely possible to override Microsoft's restrictions. The procedure to follow to install Windows 11 on a non-compatible PC is not very complicated.

Microsoft knows this well and even tolerates the fact that users disregard its recommendations to use Windows 11 on hardware that is in principle unsupported. But the Redmond firm has just issued a warning to all those who risk this operation. The goal of the operation is clear: Microsoft wants to dissuade you from doing it, and intends to ruin your life if you succeed.

Microsoft warns users of non-compatible PCs

On its website, the Redmond firm has just updated a support page concerning “ installing Windows 11 on devices that do not meet the minimum system requirements “. Microsoft thus reminds that by carrying out this practice “ you should be comfortable assuming the risk of encountering compatibility issues » and that « devices that do not meet these system requirements are not guaranteed to receive updates, including but not limited to security updates ».

To protect its back, Microsoft has even provided an exclusion of liability clause (in the event of a problem) if Windows 11 is installed on a device that does not meet the minimum configuration requirements:

« This PC does not meet the minimum requirements to run Windows 11: These requirements ensure a more reliable and higher quality experience. Installing Windows 11 on this PC is not recommended and may cause compatibility issues. If you continue installing Windows 11, your PC will no longer be supported and will no longer be allowed to receive updates. Damage to your PC due to lack of compatibility is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. By selecting Accept, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this instruction. »

Microsoft's message, which here is intended to scare, is very clear: if you risk installing Windows 11 on a non-compatible PC and you encounter a problem, deal with it.

Microsoft nevertheless seems to forget that users who ignored its restrictions to save their PC from being thrown into the landfill did not wait until after it to resolve their possible incompatibility problems.

PCs not compatible with Windows 11 will have a watermark

To dissuade you from installing Windows 11 on your non-compatible PC, Microsoft is bringing out the heavy artillery. True to form, the company has planned to do everything possible to annoy you.

« When Windows 11 is installed on a device that does not meet the minimum system requirements, a watermark is added to the Windows 11 desktop. A notification may also appear in Settings to indicate that the requirements are not met. » announced Microsoft on the support page dedicated to using Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

You will have understood, if you dare to install Windows 11 on your old, non-compatible PC, Microsoft will punish you. To do this, it will not only ruin your desktop, but also display a notification that is apparently impossible to deactivate, in the operating system settings.

If, however, these warnings got the better of your determination to use Windows 11 in a “fraudulent” way, Microsoft provides instructions on how to go back to Windows 10.

Not sure that this surge of pressure will be favorable to the company. Because users burned by Microsoft's practices have many other options to revive their PC that does not meet the specifications of Windows 11. They can, for example, abandon Windows and revive their old PC thanks to Linux , or opt for simplicity by installing Chrome OS on their machine.
