A wave of email scams is currently mobilizing Engie’s image. A message announces a refund of several dozen euros following a payment exceeding consumption.
Winter is fast approaching and temperatures are gradually dropping. More than ever, the subject of costs linked to energy consumption within the home concerns many Belgians. For good reason, the amount of energy bills to be paid increases as temperatures drop.
Therefore, a reduction in a bill to pay would suit many of us. Some malicious people have understood this well. For several days, a scam involving the image of Engie has landed in certain mailboxes. A message announces what looks like good news: “ We inform you that a credit of €62.33 is available on your account, following a payment exceeding your consumption ».
Subsequently, the message specifies that: “ This amount is above the threshold of €10 and cannot be deducted from your next bill. We invite you to claim this amount to obtain your refund ».
Of course, we find a link put forward which would allow you to be reimbursed for this promised €62.33. It is precisely this link that constitutes the heart of the scam. In fact, this link redirects the victim to a fake Engie site programmed to record your personal data (bank account number, identifier, etc.).
Furthermore, we can note the fact that this scam is personalized. Indeed, at the end of the email, we can read: “ This message is automatically sent to X, please do not respond ».
If you receive a message like this, simply ignore it. A company like Engie will never send you a reimbursement announcement by email. If you have any doubts, contact Engie directly, or the company whose name is highlighted, to clarify the situation.
