How many are there two years later? We asked the question to… ChatGPT! How many people use ChatGPT regularly? Here is his response: “OpenAI has not released precise figures on the exact number of users, but the service is extremely popular”. We insist. ChatGPT, always so prompt and polite: “As of November 2024, ChatGPT has approximately 200 million weekly active users. This figure doubled compared to the previous year.. Knowing that the enfant terrible of generative AI is subject to hallucinations, we allow ourselves to doubt. This time, we do a search on the site of a major American media outlet. We learn, based on information included in a press release from OpenAI, that there are more than 250 million people using ChatGPT.to improve their work, their creativity and their education” (sic). A little exercise which tends to show that ChatGPT does not draw on its own data to respond to its users’ queries…

Still, in the words of business philosopher Luc de Brabandere, ChatGPT marked a “decisive and profound break” in the history of algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI). This is particularly true for businesses. Although adoption is taking place very gradually, generative AI is proving increasingly essential in many sectors. “Artificial intelligence is here to stay, with or without ChatGPT. However, companies will have to redouble their efforts to use it in a way that adds value.believes Matthieu Vercruysse, Chief Transformation Officer of the Publicis group in Belgium (whose interview can be read opposite).
OpenAI launches its own internet search engine, a competitor to Google
If OpenAI was the first to democratize access to generative AI, it is no longer the only player.
