Everyone has their little one Need for Speed favorite. Of those who continue to hum “Riders of the Stoooorm” twenty years later Underground 2 to others who have plunged body and soul into the abyss of the canyons of Carbonwithout forgetting the autumn chases of Hot Pursuit or the realism of Pro Streetthe EA series showed us some green and unripe things. However, if there is one episode that continues to endure through the ages, it is Most Wantedan opus released in 2005, thanks to the iconic car that is the BMW M3 GTR and its unique customization, made for the game.
Undoubtedly one of the most famous vehicles in video games, this single car, tampered with to the bone and actually produced in very few copies, represents for many the very essence of Need for Speed. In the game, the car alone represented the initial plot and the need to complete the entire single-player campaign, a real key to recover by right after having defeated the entire dangerous blacklist. It also appeared on the cover: a true idolized treasure, enough for all players to try to reproduce it unofficially in all episodes of the saga, when EA had not decided to include it as DLC or as an Easter egg.
To celebrate its thirty years, Need for Speed therefore gave even more credit to this unique machine. First of all, throughUnboundthe latest episode released at the end of 2022 which continues to be updated regularly and which will offer Vol. 9, a DLC including a whole bunch of goodies like the Subaru Impreza STI, the Honda Integra Type R and even a very first motorcycle, the BMW S 1000 RR. We will also find a new Speed Pass, new PvP content, 14 new event playlists, special challenges for the 30th anniversary of the series… and therefore, as the highlight of the show, the famous BMW M3 GTR from Most Wanted to recover.
Some will probably give in, while others, even more determined, will pack their bags and travel to Munic, Germany (unless you already live there, of course), to take a look at the BMW exhibition World. There, until January 6, 2025, the real 2005 BMW GTR E46 from Most Wanted has been officially recreated by the automaker. Enough to make hearts sink since we are here on something new, where many buyers of the simple BMW M3 E46 tried to customize their machine in the past, which was therefore nothing official. But there, it really is and it will inevitably attract a few enthusiasts. This exceptional and meticulous recreation was also photographed from every angle.
In any case, no news has been given about a new game, Criterion being currently fully mobilized around the next one Battlefield with DICE. Maybe one day.
