Instagram is catching up on WhatsApp and Messenger, two other messaging apps from the Meta group. The famous social network has announced new features regarding direct messages. The first allows users to share their precise location in real time or pin a location on a map to set up an appointment with a contact or group of recipients. Limited to one hour, location sharing can be particularly useful when finding yourself in a crowded place, such as at a concert.
Please note that location sharing is disabled by default and is only available in private messages. When sharing, only participants in the discussion can see the position, which cannot be transferred to other discussions, the platform specifies on its blog. She adds that an indicator, visible at the top of the screen, reminds you that you are sharing your location and that it is possible to stop sharing at any time. Instagram recommends using this feature only with trusted people you know in real life.
Instagram will also allow nicknames to be given to people with whom the user communicates on the platform. To do this, simply tap on the name of the conversation, then the “Pseudonym” tab. There, it will be possible to modify your own name and that of other participants in the discussion.
Finally, Instagram is making available 17 sticker packs with more than 300 new stickers that users can add to their discussions.
The deployment of these new features currently only concerns a handful of countries, the list of which has not been specified.
