Replace Safari with SearchGPT in a minute with this shortcut on iPhone

Available for a few weeks, the search engine integrated into ChatGPT is enriched with a practical functionality on Apple smartphones.

Until Siri can take advantage of the power of ChatGPT, iPhone owners can already replace Safari with SearchGPT, the AI search engine launched by OpenAI a few weeks ago.

A shortcut to AI search

To launch a web search with ChatGPT, you must first open the application, then a new chat, select the icon to indicate to the chatbot that you wish to explore the web, then type or dictate your query . With the latest app update on iOS, OpenAI is speeding up the process.

Rather than launching a new dedicated app (like Google’s Gemini, which just came to iPhone), OpenAI will leverage the iPhone’s Shortcuts app. If you are not familiar with the tool, it is an application that allows you to create shortcuts (who would have thought) and set up automations (home automation, in particular).

From now on, we find in the Shortcuts menu dedicated to ChatGPT a new option called “Open SearchGPT”, which allows you to directly open a new web search page on the application.

This shortcut can then be placed on the iPhone home screen, and you can even ask Siri to activate it by voice.

A function always reserved for paid accounts

If SearchGPT is in fact more accessible on iPhone, the search engine powered by artificial intelligence is still a nice touch reserved for people with a ChatGPT Plus ($20 per month) or Business account.

But, like the other advanced features of ChatGPT in recent months, it should inevitably be opened to the public, subject to a daily use limit.

Web search using AI is one of the major areas of development for tech companies for 2025. Google is working hard on it, just like Microsoft, who are being challenged by a certain Perplexity who has good arguments in his sleeve.
